Dr. Alyzabeth Schwettman

Owner

Dr. Alyzabeth Schwettman grew up in Denton, Texas, where her passion for animals began at a young age. She was first exposed to veterinary medicine through her grandfather’s cattle and her interest continued to grow through FFA and showing cattle. Combining her love of agriculture with an interest in science, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a minor in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University in 2012 before completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree there in 2016.

After graduation, Dr. Schwettman joined Bastrop Veterinary Hospital and has been caring for the community ever since. She became a practice owner in 2020 and is proud to help continue the hospital’s tradition of relationship-centered veterinary care. She is USDA accredited and participated in veterinary outreach trips to Haiti, Honduras, and the Navajo Nation during veterinary school.

She enjoys the unique variety that veterinary medicine offers each day and especially values building lasting relationships with her clients and their animals. Her professional interests include companion animal medicine, regulatory work with livestock, and supporting youth involved in livestock show projects. She believes that by improving the health and well-being of her patients, she also enhances the lives of the families who love them.

Dr. Schwettman now lives in Taylor, Texas, with her husband, Matthew, a farmer, their two sons, Myles and Mason, and their senior Australian Shepherd – Heeler mix, Remi. Outside the clinic, she enjoys traveling, reading, cheering on the Aggies, and exploring new places with her family. Her travels have taken her to Spain, Germany, the Caribbean, and more, and she appreciates every opportunity to experience new cultures while remaining deeply rooted in the values of rural Texas.
